Which label format does NutriLabel produce?

Accepted Answer

FSSAI format only, following the Food Safety and Standards (Labelling and Display) Regulations, 2020 as amended. That means per 100 g (or 100 ml) values, per-serving values, % RDA, added sugar and trans fat declared separately, allergen declarations and front-of-pack indicators. We do not currently output US FDA or EU 1169/2011 panels.

Where do the nutrition numbers come from?

Two public sources. ICMR-NIN's Indian Food Composition Tables 2017 covers 542 foods measured across six Indian regions, and USDA FoodData Central (public domain, CC0) supplies roughly 2 million records on demand for ingredients IFCT does not cover. Our own database holds 727 foods today and grows automatically as new ingredients are resolved.

Does the AI make up nutrition values?

Accepted Answer

No. The AI reads your recipe text and works out which ingredient you meant — that is a language task. It never invents nutrition numbers. Every value is looked up from IFCT 2017 or USDA FoodData Central, and all the arithmetic is done in code.

Question 4

How accurate is a label generated from a recipe?

Values are looked up per ingredient and combined using published yield and moisture models, then checked against mass balance and Atwater energy rules. Cooking varies between kitchens, so treat a recipe-based label as a well-sourced calculation rather than a lab measurement. For a regulatory filing, use a NABL lab report.

Question 5

What happens when I upload a NABL lab report?

The values are transcribed from your report as-is. We do not alter them, and a nutrient that is absent from the report is left off the label rather than estimated. If an FSSAI-mandatory nutrient is missing, we block the export and tell you which one.

Question 6

Can I use imported ingredients like olive oil, quinoa or cream cheese?

Yes. Ingredients that are not in the Indian tables are resolved against USDA FoodData Central, so imported and speciality ingredients get real sourced values instead of a guess. 1,630 ingredient name mappings across 6 languages help match what you typed to the right food.

What if an ingredient cannot be identified?

Accepted Answer

It is excluded from the totals and shown to you plainly on screen and in the audit trail — never filled in with a guess. If unidentified ingredients exceed 15% of the raw weight, we block the label instead, because the numbers would not be meaningful, and no credit is consumed.

What does it cost?

Your first label is free. After that plans start at ₹99 for a single label, ₹149, ₹599 and ₹899 for larger packs. These are one-time credit packs, not subscriptions — no credit card is stored.

Which languages are supported?

Labels can be produced in English plus major Indian languages, and ingredient names are matched across 6 languages so you can type in the words your kitchen actually uses.
