FSSAI labels for imported food and imported ingredients

Two problems look the same from the outside. An overseas brand shipping into India needs an FSSAI-format panel it has never had to produce before. An Indian brand cooking with olive oil, quinoa, cream cheese or maple syrup needs composition data that Indian tables simply do not carry. Both are solved by the same thing: a label engine that can reach ~2 million USDA FoodData Central records and still print in FSSAI format.

If you are importing into India

Imported pre-packaged food sold in India has to carry Indian declarations. In practice that means:

  • Nutrition information per 100 g / 100 ml as well as per serving
  • Sodium declared in milligrams — not converted to "salt" as on EU packs
  • Added sugars and trans fat shown as separate lines
  • % RDA against ICMR-NIN reference values, not US Daily Values
  • Veg / non-veg symbol, which has no equivalent on FDA or EU packs
  • Country of origin, and the importer's name and complete Indian address
  • The FSSAI logo and the importer's licence number

A US Nutrition Facts panel or an EU big-7 table cannot simply be re-used. The nutrient set, the reference basis and the layout are all different. Paste your existing panel values or your lab report and get the Indian format back.

If you cook with imported ingredients

IFCT 2017 is excellent for Indian foods and silent on many imported ones. When an ingredient is not in the Indian tables, we resolve it against USDA FoodData Central instead of guessing — with branded packaged products excluded, so "potatoes" never resolves to a bag of chips.

Multi-language ingredient matching

1,630 ingredient name mappings across 6 languages mean your team can type the words they actually use — English, Hindi, Tamil and more — and still land on the correct measured food.

One thing we do not do yet

We output FSSAI format only. US FDA Nutrition Facts and EU 1169/2011 panels are in development and are not available today. If you need those, join the waitlist on the homepage and we will contact you when the format ships — we would rather tell you plainly than sell you a format that does not exist.
